Topping Rose House

This past weekend the Hubs and I headed out to the Hamptons for a little summer kick off...except it was 40 degrees and basically snowing. Some summer, huh?

Instead of calling it a loss I decided it was a great idea to drag him around to all of the fabulous stores, restaurants and hotels I had been reading about all off season!

So here starts Hamptons Week - where I'll be sharing with you some serious Hamptons fabulousness...

First, I introduce you to Topping Rose House - originally constructed in 1842, Topping Rose House is a full-service inn located in Bridgehampton.  The inn is home to 22 guest rooms, and a restaurant from chef/superstar Tom Colicchio.

While the restaurant is, of course, bomb...the interiors are what really made me drool. Designed by Champalimaud (if you haven't checked out their website, you need to...like asap) who applied the following philosophy:

"Champalimaud’s approach to designing TRH’s interior was simple: living and sleeping spaces should be exact and polished, whilst comfortable and rooted in history. Champalimaud seamlessly transitions from old to new within the property, designing an additional twelve new contemporary guest cottage rooms and three sleek modern studio rooms to the preexisting seven housed in the historic Greek revival mansion."

Sounds amazing, right? I agree...

I'M BACK!

So, I started this little blog with the intention of sharing things that I found inspirational and getting inspired back from you all...

But between going back to school for interior design, working full time and planning a wedding (and attempting to give my darling husband a little attention)...something had to give. So I took a little break but I'm back (and married)!

So, I apologize for being a loser and promise to be much better in the future....forgive me???

I mean really, how could you not??

Wedding Wednesday

You know your best friend is truly your best friend when she throws you a

Miami Vice themed bridal shower and knows you are going to LOVE that shit.

Enter: My Bridal Shower.

I had a fantistico skimpy little dress picked out (very Miami appropriate) but then the weather decided to sabotage my plans and suddenly bare legs in 15 degree weather didn't seem like such a great idea.

So here are the current contenders, I love them all and think the colors are super Miami!

Which to pick..hmm.....

Option 1:

Option 2:

(sorry these look wonk...my mac was acting funk all morning)

Option 5:

I kind of think I'm leaning toward Option 5...I mean Don Johnson would be way proud...



Black is Back

Not too long ago, as we were searching for our first sofa I became obsessed with a totally glamorous black leather chesterfield. I could see my friends perched on my sofa as I whipped up deliciously intricate cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and conversed on the latest poetry readings we'd attended. This couch was going to be my catalyst...from dorm room futon to sheer sophistication.

Enter: My [future] Mother In Law. I made the perilous mistake of sharing my sofa plans with her and she politely informed me that the early 90's called...and they wanted their hideous sofa back.

Naturally, I was a totally weenie and instead of sticking up for my hopes and dreams I went with the safe (read: lame) choice and now our sofa exists somewhere between being sat on by my straight-from-the-gym-gross-sweaty fiance and getting pasta spilled on by yours truly. No fancy cocktails. No poetry readings. Obviously this is the couch's fault.

To be honest, I can't totally blame my MIL. Having been a decorator through the early 90's, I'm sure she saw her fair share of these:

And would rather die than see her son living in such squalor.

But, she was wrong. Black is back baby. And here is my ode to the black leather chesterfield. 

Someday....sooooomeday you will be mine!

Wedding Wednesday

This is me in the wedding process right now...

There are SO many decisions left to make and so many little details to wrap up. I'm going insane but working on taking it one thing at a time (I think I can, I think I can...)

So up on today's to-do is wedding menus.

There are tons of beautiful and unique options out there. I do know that I want to place one menu on each place setting..now, what those menus will look like is another story. Here are my top options...

Option 1: Circular Menu
I love this option as I think it frames the plate beautifully and is sort of unique.

DIY! - These beauties are via Daughter of Design. To make they tea stained regular paper doilies and then stamped each with a custom stamp they had made. Awesome idea.

Option 2 - Die Cut Menu

I'm a sucker for a good die-cut shape...and these beauties have me swooning...

Love the art deco feel!

Option 3 - Jazzing up a Simple Menu with a Unique Wrap

Last idea...what about taking a simple menu and wrapping it in something stunning??

Art for Fashion

On a recent visit to the 'Regarding Warhol' exhibit at the Met I learned that

Andy Warhol launched his career as an illustrator for Harper's Bazaar Magazine

and continued to create illustrations for the magazine until 1964.

There isn't much new and unique Warhol that I have come across recently

and I just love the freshness and whimsy of these illustrations.

The originals have apparently been destroyed (shucks, as I was really in the market for an original myself...) but I think the prints would be adorable framed in a powder room? Or a teenage girls room? Love it, love him.
